Once your distillation is done, you’re going to want to dilute it to get it to a drinkable level of alcohol.
Here’s how to dilute your distillate:
Make sure you have an alcoholmeter and measuring cylinder, and some clean water. Ideally also a funnel for pouring. Make sure they’re cleaned as well!
Pour your distillate into the measuring cylinder. Remember to leave enough room for the alcoholmeter.
Lower the alcoholmeter into the cylinder, being careful to not have it stick against the sides.’
Gently spin the alcoholmeter to ensure it’s reached the correct level.
Read the ABV from the alcoholmeter - this is the strength of your distillate. Generally somewhere around the 70% mark.
Determine the amount of water required for dilution using one of the many “distiller’s dilution calculators” available on the web. We generally default to 42% ABV..
Dilute with clean water. Don’t forget to pour the distillate from the measuring cylinder into your larger container first!
